Greetings LocalMotoHub member!
Preparing for a long-distance ride from a LocalMotoHub member:
Plan your trip with at least one other rider, especially if you are relatively new to long-distance riding. Chose an experienced rider, one you feel would be a compatible partner. Plan your trip so you can make frequent stops to eat, stretch, and sightsee. I recommend no more than 300 miles a day. I did 425 miles one day and it was very demanding the last 2 hours.
Ride during daylight hours. Avoid riding at dusk if possible. If you have to ride at night try to stay away from highways where there are animals. I had deer whistles on my bike which gave me a feeling of false security. Either they don't work or I hit a deaf deer. Slow down if you have to drive in areas that are known to have animals (forest preserves, state parks, etc.) Better to get there late.
Looking for a new retirement plan? Forget the footballs, basketballs, baseballs, and soccer balls. Get your kid (or grandkid) into MotoGP! According to Total Pro Sports, MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi finished in 14th place (with a cool $20.8 mil) on their list of highest paid athletes. One caveat - you'd better move to Europe, no one from North American motor sports made the list.
Do bikers get a bad rap? Watch what happens when some tough-looking bikers help sell some Carlsberg Beer.

It's a different kind of classic motorcycle auction. A 1949 Triumph Trophy TR5 used by ‘The Fonz’ in the hit series “Happy Days” will be auctioned (as is - read: isn't running). As the story goes, the producers of the show added the motorcycle as a prop because executives at ABC thought 'Fonzie' looked too much like a troublemaker in his black leather jacket. With the bike nearby the producers made the excuse that the jacket was merely required safety equipment. One of those jackets now sits in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
Safety Tip - Can you say ROAD CONSTRUCTION? It seems to be everywhere and can present serious safety hazards for riders. Unmarked changes in road conditions, poorly or confusingly marked roads can pose a real threat. Always be on the lookout for uneven pavement, milled surfaces, or conditions that can affect traction and stability.
