Greetings Local Moto Hub Member!
Local Moto Hub goes to Daytona!
The 71st Anniversary Daytona Bike week runs from March 9 - March 18 and Local Moto Hub will be there for all the action. Well, maybe just some of the action, since we've not yet perfected being in more than one place at a time. We're especially looking forward to the Daytona Supercross race on March 10 on the course designed by champion racer Ricky Carmichael. Click here
to read more about the Supercross Course. The Daytona 200 to be held on March 17 caps off the week of racing and kicks off the AMA Pro Racing season with a 200-mile race on the banks of the world famous Daytona International Speedway as America's top motorcycle stars battle it out.
When you stop by the Speedway check out the custom bikes built for Allstate by Dave Perewitz, Rick Fairless, and Arlen Ness. Also take a ride on your next bike as most, if not all, of the major motorcycle manufactures will be represented and sponsoring demo rides.
For those who can't make it - please plan to check out our website as we will be bringing you daily updates starting on Saturday.
A little closer to home, check out the The Iron Horses/Steel Ponies Exhibit at Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis. This exhibit will explore the art, history and cultures that have developed around the motorcycle and will feature more than 20 motorcycles, each with a unique story illustrating the rich subcultures that have sprung out of the motorcycle. Featured in the show will be a custom-crafted motorcycle by Daniel Sanchez. that ‘will integrate modern technology, Native American culture with significant historical influences’. Sanchez, owner of Cut Throat Customs, is a descendant of an Apache Metal Artisan. The special exhibit runs through August 5, 2012.
We've seen some pretty amazing motorcycle stunts but this series is simply amazing! In light of this year's Oscar winner, perhaps the old black and white silent movies like this will see a resurgence. Enjoy!! Watch video
Most likely you've heard that Ducati is up for sale. Well we have just learned that the world's #1 motorcycle manufacturer - India's Hero MotoCorp - is considering becoming the buyer. For a cool billion, give or take a few mil, Hero MotoCorp can replace its agreement ending in 2014 under which Honda has supplied Hero MotoCorp with motorcycles and technology for the last 25 years. If you're concerned about Hero's ability to meet the market's high quality standards then consider the fact that they already supply a vast array of high tech components and vehicles to BMW, Toyota, and GM.
Hero's massive manufacturing capability along with India's growing economy and population, coupled with Ducati's enginering and global network might just transform this regional player into a worldwide powerhouse.
Looking for your next challenge - not to mention some extra spending money? If so check out the American Motorcycle Rally. The goal of this endurance event is to ride 7000 miles in nine days for a grand prize of $150,000 and a total of $350,000 in prizes. The rally is open to all riders on any brand motorycycle.
This off-season we at Local Moto Hub have been working to make improvements to the site and get the word out about the benefits our site has to offer the local motorcycle riding community. As we grow you'll be seeing our brand in more of your favorite motorcycle-related businesses. Just this past week we've expanded our network of advocates helping us reach the local riding community. Our network now includes: Heritage Harley-Davidson in Lisle, Fox Valley Cycles in Aurora, Kegel's Harley-Davidson in Rockford, Randy's Cycle in Marengo and Richs Yamaha in Lockport!
Send us your day ride and overnight suggestions and we'll share them with fellow riders on our website and in this newsletter. If your overnight getaway is selected for publication, you'll receive a $100 gift certificate to any one of our sponsors. Send your day rides and overnight getaway recommendations to firstname.lastname@example.org.
To those of you who have visited the site recently, thanks! If not, please check us out - we continue to add new events, destinations, and ROADS every day.
Remember to "be careful out there" and keep the rubber side down!
